This popular stitching project started in November 2003 under the leadership of artist
Lisa Hellier.
Over 150 participants created two giant 10 ft wide banners depicting
both sides of Crickhowell's High Street.
The project then went on to produce a third
panel created by children from schools in the area. Working with projects designer
and leader Lisa Hellier they stitched their own textile picture of the A40 in Crickhowell
depicting buildings such as the Fire Station and the Bear Hotel.
Each building has
been completed by a different individual using their own chosen techniques and materials.
Others contributed to the sky, patchwork panels, road, street furniture and its little
textile characters. The result is a stunning and lively rendition of this pretty
town in South Powys.

There are plans for the completed works to go on tour, but its present home is the new Crickhowell Resource and Information Centre, which is now open to visitors.
